Williams Reports on Visit

Irving defensive end Damon Williams visited Lubbock over the weekend for his first official recruiting visit. What did the talented lineman think of the game and his visit? RaiderPower.com has the scoop.

Nimitz High School defensive end Damon Williams was in town over the weekend to watch the Texas Tech/New Mexico game and take an official visit. The Red Raiders were the first school on Williams' visit list, and he walked away impressed with what he saw.

"It's the only school I've taken an official visit to, but [Texas Tech] is up there high. I love it down there and wouldn't mind going there."

While Texas Tech was Damon's first official, he has also taken an unofficial visit to Baylor and says, "[My visit to Tech] was better."

The atmosphere at the game was especially impressive to Damon, who was there to witness the first sellout of the 2009 season.

"The game was okay, but I loved the crowd. The stadium is pretty cool. They're adding on to it. The campus is really big and pretty."

One of the main reason Williams enjoyed his visit so much was that he was comfortable with the players and felt like he would fit in well with the team. He had the opportunity to spend some quality time with safety Julius Howard and DL Chris Perry and says that he could definitely see himself as a member of the Red Raider squad.

"I hung out with some of the guys last night, and they made me feel like I was at home with my friends. I hung out with Julius Howard, his roommate Chris Perry, and some other guys."

Williams also reported that he enjoyed meeting the coaches who have been recruiting him.

"Yeah, I talked to [the coaches] a lot. I liked them all. They made me feel welcome."

Damon is hoping for early playing time and says that after his visit, he thinks that competing for time on the field as a true freshman is a definite possibility.

"All I have to do is go in and work hard, and I can get playing time."

Williams plans on taking all five official visits and doesn't have a timeline for when he plans to commit yet. The schools he is considering visiting include Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Arkansas.
