The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (22-3, 11-2) kept their Big 12 Championship hopes alive by defeating the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (6-18, 2-11). Jia Perkins and Cisti Greenwalt scored 14 points apiece to lead the Lady Raiders to victory.
Texas Tech started the game with a 13-4 run, and never looked back. The Lady Raiders were able to use their defense, and a series of runs to extend their lead throughout the first half. Texas Tech led 42-22 at the half.
Oklahoma State was never able to gain an advantage in the second half. The Lady Raiders seized the opportunity to knock the Cowgirls out of the game early in the second half. Texas Tech won by a final score of 83-48.
Offensively, the Lady Raiders showed better offensive balance in tonight's game. There was a good mixture of scoring from the inside and outside. Jia Perkins and Cisti Greenwalt both scored 14 points to lead Texas Tech. Natalie Ritchie scored 13 points, while LaToya Davis scored 10 points. Erin Grant had another good game with 7 assists. The only negative was the number of turnovers. Texas Tech will not beat Texas if they commit 25 turnovers on March 2nd. If the Lady Raiders can continue to get scoring from every position, and cut down the number of turnovers, they have a good chance of winning the rest of their games.
Even with the turnovers, the Oklahoma State was unable to score many points agains the Lady Raiders' powerful defense. Texas Tech did a great job forcing the Cowgirls into bad shots, then grabbing the rebounds. I think the Lady Raiders' defense is going to determine how far they can go in the post-season. If Texas Tech can play solid defense for 40 minutes, there are only a handful of teams that can compete with them.
