Lady Raiders Defeat Nebraska, 50-35

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (23-3, 12-2) kept their Big 12 title hopes alive with a victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers (8-17, 1-13). Jia Perkins led the Lady Raiders to victory with a game high 19 points.

Poor shooting by Texas Tech allowed Nebraska to take a 14-4 lead in the first half.  The Lady Raiders answered with a 13-2 run that gave them a 17-6 lead with just under 7 minutes left in the half. Neither team could get an advantage for the rest of the half.  The game was tied 22-22 at the half.

The Lady Raiders came to life in the second half.  Texas Tech went on a 22-5 run that sealed the victory for the Lady Raiders.  Nebraska scored some late points to bring the final margin to 15 points.

Offense

Jia Perkins scored 19 points to lead the Lady Raiders offensively.  Perkins scored the first 8 points for the Lady Raiders, and 13 of their 22 first half points.  The second half saw a more balanced Texas Tech offense, but Perkins was the best offensive player on the court tonight.  It would be nice to see better balance on offense, but Texas Tech will always have a chance to win when Perkins plays like she did tonight.

Defense

After the initial 14 points by Nebraska, the Texas Tech defense got back to playing great defense.  Jia Perkins played great on the defensive end as well.  She almost makes it look too easy on the defensive end.  Cisti Greenwalt had a nice defensive game, altering numerous shots in the paint.  This defense is ready to take the Lady Raiders deep into the postseason.
