Lady Raiders Defeat Oklahoma State, 75-52

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (25-4) defeated Oklahoma State (8-20) to get one step closer to the Big 12 Tournament Championship. Jia Perkins scored 21 points to lead the Lady Raiders to victory.

Texas Tech got off to a quick start, but Oklahoma State withstood the early run.  After the initial offensive flurry, both teams ran into offensive difficulties.  Both teams struggled for the rest of the half.  Both teams entered halftime tied at 32.

The Lady Raiders came to life in the second half.  It all started with a much improved defensive effort that led to good looks on the offensive end.  Oklahoma State kept it close for the first five minutes of the second half, but then the flood gates opened.  The Lady Raiders used a 16-0 run to take a 59-41 lead.  Texas Tech continued to improve on this lead for the final 10 minutes, winning by a final score of 75-52.

With the exception of Jia Perkins, the Lady Raiders struggled for most of the first half.  In the second half, the Texas Tech offense got improved production from the entire team.  Jia Perkins led the Lady Raiders with 21 points.  Plenette Pierson scored 16 points in the game.  Natalie Ritchie made 2 three pointers on her way to 11 points.  The Lady Raiders can't afford to have another slow start tomorrow against Kansas State.  If they can carry their momentum from the second half into the next game they should have a good chance to advance to the finals.

Texas Tech played spectacular defense in the second half.  Maybe the six days off had an effect in the first half, but the Lady Raiders were playing great defense once the second half started.  The Lady Raiders have relied on their defense all season, but it becomes even more important in the postseason.  It's a nice safety net in case the offense has some problems during a game.  If the Lady Raiders can continue to play great defense, they will have a chance to win every game they play during the postseason.
