Daniels to Make Quick Decision

One of the top uncommitted basketball prospects in the country will give a college staff a happy New Year's within the next few days.

DeAndre Daniels, listed as the second-best uncommitted prospect in the Class of 2011 by Scout.com, has reportedly narrowed his choices to Texas, Kansas and Kentucky. Daniels, who hails from California, but attends school at IMG Academy in Florida, is expected to announce as early as tonight, and by the end of the weekend at the latest.

What's the rush? Daniels wishes to enroll at his college of choice at the start of the second semester so that he can get a full semester under his belt before starting his true freshman season. Daniels does not plan to play second semester.

Daniels is listed as the No. 9 power forward in the Class of 2011, but will likely play small forward in college. Not only is his game more perimeter-oriented, but Daniels is a slender 6-foot-7, and is a nice athlete who can shoot the three. A four-star recruit, Daniels is considered one of the more gifted players in the class.

If the Longhorns were to land Daniels, he would likely compete with fellow 2011 class member Sheldon McClellan for the starting job a the three. Current starting small forward Jordan Hamilton is expected to turn pro after this year.

Daniels was an early Texas commitment in this class before reopening his recruitment at the end of the summer.
