Counting Down the Big 12's Top Players

One day at a time, will count down the Big 12's top 50 players. Today, at No. 49, comes Kansas State defensive end Brandon Harold.

49) Brandon Harold, senior DE, Kansas State

Harold showed glimpses of his potential as a true freshman, when he racked up 45 tackles, including 10 for loss and three sacks. That performance led at least one Big 12 coach to opine after the season that Harold was a player who could play major minutes at an Oklahoma or a Texas.

But Harold was sidetracked after that, missing most of the 2009 season with an injury before returning in 2010, his true junior season, and making 41 stops, 7.5 in the backfield, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

At 6-foot-5 and 264 pounds, Harold has great size for a college end, and should help Kansas State in its efforts to field a better run defense in 2011. But the Wildcats would also love it if he could finally capitalize on his potential by getting to the quarterback on a more consistent basis. With 17.5 tackles for loss in two seasons as a starter, he's shown plenty of ability. Now it's time for that ability to translate into him at least doubling his career total of five sacks.

2010 Stats:41 tackles, 7.5 for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles
