Recruiting Capsule: Defensive Tackles

The Longhorns wanted to beef up their interior defense in this class. Are they finished at the position?

2012 Roster Shape

Ashton Dorsey (junior), Calvin Howell (junior), Chris Whaley (junior), Taylor Bible (sophomore), De'Aires Cotton (sophomore), Greg Daniels (sophomore), Desmond Jackson (sophomore)

2012 Commitments

Paul Boyette, Humble; Malcom Brown, Brenham; Alex Norman, Bishop Dunne

2012 Outlook: Probably Finished

The Longhorns looked at some other tackles, but didn't evaluate any higher than Brown, one of the state's top overall players and one of the country's top defensive tackles. Both Boyette and Norman are upside picks, and both have the ability to develop into big-time players. The emergence of players like Dorsey, Howell, Whaley and Jackson means that they'll have that time to develop. There is one player to keep an eye on: JUCO transfer Brandon Moore. With the Longhorns losing Kheeston Randall after the season, Texas might decide to offer Moore to bring in another experienced player. Watch this position in the offseason. With so many bodies, it wouldn't be a shock to see a player or two switch positions or transfer off the team altogether.
