Recruiting Capsule: Cornerbacks

The Longhorns have evaluated a number of players in the cornerback class for 2012. Which targets are still in play?

2012 Roster Shape

Eryon Barnett (junior), Carrington Byndom (junior), A.J. White (junior), Quandre Diggs (sophomore), Leroy Scott (sophomore), Josh Turner (sophomore)

2012 Commitments

Bryson Echols, DeSoto; Orlando Thomas, Copperas Cove

2012 Outlook: Still Looking

Echols is the only current commitment slated specifically for corner, as Thomas was recruited as an athlete. Still, it appears that cornerback could be the starting, and ending, spot for the Copperas Cove product. That still leaves one spot that the Longhorns would like to fill at the position, though they might consider it filled if Kendall Sanders commits as a wide receiver. Sanders is the state's top cornerback prospect, and so even if he comes in at another position, you feel like one of he and Thomas will be able to emerge at corner eventually. But don't be shocked if Sanders commits AND Texas pulls the trigger on another cornerback offer.
