Adrian Colbert was slated to visit Texas for Senior Night. But he wasn't able to make it to Austin after getting diagnosed with strep throat. That didn't stop him from seeing the Longhorns — or the other one of his final two choices, along with Baylor — in person this season.
Colbert made it to Texas-Baylor in Waco, and said that he was impressed by both teams.
"It was a pretty good first half," Colbert said. "I was only able to stay for the first half because the roads were getting pretty wet and pretty bad. My parents wanted me home early, but it was a great game."
Colbert said he watched his safety position on both teams, watching how both were utilized.
"I could see that both teams need a lot of help at the safety position," Colbert said. "At Texas, it seems like a lot of their safeties are hurt. And Baylor has a lack of speed at the back."
Colbert is slated to take an official visit to Waco on Jan. 14. But he'll visit Austin this weekend for his official visit for Texas banquet weekend.
"I'm expecting to have a really good time and get the full Texas experience," Colbert said. "I'll get to see a school that I'll possibly be going to for the next four orifice years, so I want to get all the information I can about it, not only from a football standpoint, but from an academic one."
Colbert visited Texas as a sophomore for a track camp. And he said that he originally planned to visit Austin officially for track.
"If I wouldn't have gotten scholarship offers for football, I would have gone to Texas on a track scholarship," Colbert said.
That's because Colbert is one of the state's top track athletes and a state champion in the 400-meter dash. This year, he wants to go to state in both the 200 and the 400. And he should have a chance to break a 35-year-old state record in the latter event.
"I know the guy that has the record," Colbert said. "I talk to him a lot, and he tells me that I can break it. That's what I plan on doing."
Colbert said he plans on taking both visits before making a decision. Texas is recruiting him at safety, while the Bears have offered to utilize him in limited plays at wide receiver as well. Both teams have talked about using his speed in the return game.
