Tough Defensive Back Calls It for Longhorns

Texas pulled in its 25th commitment on Sunday, and another addition to the defensive backfield.

All along, Kevin Vaccaro said he wanted to join his older brother, Kenny, at Texas. After committing to the Longhorns over banquet weekend, he'll finally get that wish.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder is a versatile defensive back who will start off at cornerback at the next level. But with the way he plays — vicious behind his pads — it isn't hard to guess that he could find a niche role, either as a smaller safety or as a nickel back who isn't afraid to come up in run support.

Vaccaro, who was both offered and accepted his offer over the weekend, is a potential grayshirt candidate, depending on which other recruits the Longhorns land in the 2012 class. If Texas fills up, Vaccaro will redshirt. If not, he will arrive at Texas as a typical recruit.

Vaccaro is rated as a two-star cornerback by by Scout.com. He makes the 25th commitment of the 2012 Texas class.
