ORLANDO, Fla. — When Alex Norman was first named to the Under Armour All-American Game, he said he reveled in the opportunity to show what he — as a smaller school player — could do when lined up against the best players in the country.
This week the Longhorn commitment at defensive tackle will get his wish, and he won't be alone. A game-high 10 Texas commitments will take part in the all-star game, with Alabama (six) and Florida (six) at a distant second. Even better, they'll all be on the same team (the Black team).
Norman will be joined by position-mate Malcom Brown on the Black defensive interior, and together, they'll try to eat up blocks for future Longhorn-linebacker-to-be Peter Jinkens. Cornerback Bryson Echols will help them attempt to get a handle on some awfully tough receivers.
Six Longhorn offensive commitments will also get a chance to show what they can do, including a quarterback in Connor Brewer, a running back in Johnathan Gray, two wide receivers in Cayleb Jones and Thomas Johnson and two offensive linemen in tackle Kennedy Estelle and guard Curtis Riser.
It isn't unusual for so many Texas commitments to be scattered through the all-star games, but the fact that nearly half the high school class — 10 of 23 — not only chose to participate in the same game, but also was named to the same team, makes the Under Armour practices, and game, a must-watch for any Longhorn fan.
