UA Game: White Wins 49-16

SEC recruits keyed a 49-16 win for the White (Team Blur) squad over the Black (Team Highlight) in the UnderArmour All-America Game. And while those players were winning the game on the field, the league won four of the six commitments announced off it.

The game's first score came on a pass from a Crimson Tide target to a Crimson Tide commitment. Jameis Winston went up and found speedster Amari Cooper for a 75-yard touchdown that marked the only score in the game's first quarter.

After the Black Team cut the lead to 6-3 on a 32-yard field goal by Duke commitment Ross Martin, the White Team exploded for the game's next 23 points. Florida State verbal Marvin Bracy caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Zach Kline (California), then Florida commit Brian Poole set an UnderArmour record by returning a Connor Brewer interception 93 yards for another score and a 20-3 halftime lead.

While the White team defensive backs put points on the scoreboard, the pass rush robbed the Black team of its quarterbacks. Two Black quarterbacks — Texas commit Brewer and Miami verbal Preston Dewey — were knocked out of the game in the first half and fellow Black team quarterback Chad Kelly (Clemson verbal) was wobbled. That meant that officials were forced to swap White quarterback and BYU commit Tanner Mangum to the Black team for the second half.

The switch might have improved the team's quarterback depth, but it didn't help with the Black team's fortunes. An early third quarter punt was blocked out of the back of the end zone by Marcus Maye for a safety. About two minutes later, Winson hit on his second touchdown pass, this one a 16-yarder to South Carolina commitment Shaq Roland.

The Black team finally responded with an 11-yard strike from Kelly to tight end Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick. But that just keyed another three-touchdown run from the black squad, with Alabama commitments supplying nails in the coffin. First, Cyrus Jones scored the White team's second interception return touchdown, taking one back 40 yards to the house. Then Cooper put up his second long score, setting up his blocks and darting to the sidelines for an electrifying 93-yard punt return touchdown.

Keith Marshall scored the White team's final touchdown on a two-yard run, with the Black team scoring just before game's end on a three-yard pass to Davonte Neal.

While SEC guys Cooper and Marshall were keying the White team offense, the defense was led by two freshly minted SEC players in Jones and Channing Ward. Ward picked Mississippi on a night that he roughed up the Black offense with 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. And Jones was one of two five-star players to call it for the Crimson Tide Thursday night along with Black team safety Landon Collins.

Chaz Elder was the other SEC commitment, choosing South Carolina. Wes Brown (Maryland) and Lucas Thompson (East Carolina) were the two commitments who bucked the trend.

Winston hit on 8-of-9 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper led all receivers with 95 yards on two catches.

There were some strong performances on the White team as well, especially on the defensive line, where Noah Spence finished with seven tackles, four for loss and three sacks. Jordan Jenkins and Ifeadi Odenigbo each kicked in a pair of sacks as well.

UnderArmour's announced attendance was nearly 25,000 the second-highest in the history of the game.
