"Committing to Texas was just a dream come true," Davis said. "It's really what I always wanted.
"Coach [Mack] Brown offered me last night as I was leaving the Junior Day," Davis said. "And I went and thought about it, and I just knew this was the right place for me."
After all, Davis said he grew up rooting for Texas, and the very first football team he played on was named the Longhorns. So on a Junior Day filled with touring the campus, dorms and the facilities, Davis said there was one moment that truly stood out.
"I was just sanding in the middle of the 50-yard line of the stadium and imagining playing there," Davis said. "It was like a dream."
It also helped that he meshed well with Brown and defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, who helped him feel at home.
"Coach Diaz said I would come in and play SAM probably, but that I could also play WILL or in the nickel," Davis said. "It's basically a lot like the defense I'm playing in high school. So I should be able to come in and know a lot of the stuff without making a ton of adjustments. I'll have to change some things, obviously, but maybe I could make a more immediate impact."
At one point, Davis said Diaz told him he wanted linebackers to just go out and hit.
"Well, that's what I like to do," Davis responded.
Davis is an excellent athlete who has been clocked in the 4.6-second-flat range in the 40-yard dash. He said he plans to study sports management.
