Johnson excelled as a short-yardage back, rushing for 36 touchdowns, fifth in Texas history, but transitioned into more of a full-time blocking back in his senior year at Texas.
"I'm so proud of Cody Johnson," said Texas coach Mack Brown. "He's a Texas graduate, and he's a guy that is so unselfish as a player that he gave up his tailback spot to play fullback in our new offense. And was one of the most improved players at that position that I have ever seen."
Johnson started 15 games during his Texas career, rushing 345 times for 1,465 yards. His rushing yards were good for 27th in school history.
Johnson played in all 13 games last year, starting 10 contests and rushing 48 times for 200 yards and six touchdowns. That helped him earn honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
