Goodwin Qualifies for Nationals in 100M

Marquise Goodwin has always been known for his long jump prowess. But now, that won't be the only event that the Texas track standout participates in at Nationals.

Goodwin has run faster this year, but his 10.35 100-meter dash was good enough to secure the final spot among the 12 runners who will move onto the National meet in the event.

"Marquise Goodwin again showed why we call him Mr. Clutch, with getting the 12th spot in the National meet," said head coach Bubba Thornton. "Once you get to the National meet anything can happen, just as anything happened here."

"It wasn't my best run but I am happy to be going on to Nationals," Goodwin said. "I also have the 4x100 relay tomorrow.  I'll have to re-energize and refocus. Today I didn't get out well, I popped up too fast. I'll just continue to run and keep training."

Goodwin qualified for Nationals in the long jump on Thursday, meaning he'll be participating in at least two events at the final meet. He's expected to be a contender for the long jump crown at the National meet.
