2014 Recruiting: Tight End

The Longhorns brought in a strong tight end crop in 2013. What does that mean for future tight end recruiting?

Expected TEs on the 2014 roster: Greg Daniels, Miles Onyegbule, M.J. McFarland, Caleb Bluiett, Geoff Swaim (2013 commitment), Durham Smythe (2013 commitment)

Needs: One, maybe more. Daniels, Swaim and Onyegbule will likely be seniors in 2014 (depending on what Texas does this season with Onyegbule being lower down on the depth chart, in terms of a redshirt).

2014s Committed: None.

Prognosis: Texas upgraded its tight end position significantly with the 2013 class, grabbing Swaim, a JUCO blocker, and Smythe, who could be the long-term all-around option the Longhorns have been craving. The next step would be to add another blocker, potentially somebody like Manvel's Koda Martin. Tight end types, like defensive ends, can emerge a little bit later, so keep an eye on that.
