Initial Basketball Power Rankings, Part Two

Oklahoma heads up our second five of teams in the initial Big 12 basketball power rankings.

6) Oklahoma (5-1)

KenPom Ranking: 78

Sooners in a sentence: Romero Osby and Amath M'Baye give the Sooners an imposing interior duo, while Lon Kruger's freshmen guards give this team significant upside as the season goes on.*

Beat fellow conference-mate West Virginia in a neutral site, head-to-head non-league matchup Nov. 25.

7) Iowa State (4-2)

KenPom Ranking: 43

Cyclones in a sentence: Once again transfer-laden, the Cyclones have gotten outstanding board-work from Will Clyburn (14.8 points, Big 12-leading 9.2 rebounds) and Melvin Ejim (9.0 boards).

8) Texas Tech (4-0)

KenPom Ranking: 180

Red Raiders in a sentence: Undefeated Tech is the highest-scoring (88.8 points per game) and biggest thieving (13.25 steals per game) team in the Big 12, but hasn't played much competition to this point.

9) West Virginia (2-3)

KenPom Ranking: 58

Mountaineers in a sentence: Rough start for the new guys from Morgantown, with the quick-handed West Virginians grabbing 10 steals per game but struggling to put the ball in the basket (41.2 FG%, 23.5 3PT%).

10) TCU (6-2)

KenPom Ranking: 220

Horned Frogs are league's worst rebounding and scoring team, while also ranking second-to-last in scoring defense, none of which are good signs in what appears to be a pretty deep league.
