State of Recruiting: Running Backs

Taking a look at Texas's 2013 recruiting class, position-by-position. Up now, running backs.

Returning starters in italics

Current Longhorns (4): Malcolm Brown, Johnathan Gray, Joe Bergeron, Daje Johnson

Current 2013 Commitments (0): None.

Commentary: Losing Kyle Hicks hurts here in that Texas could certainly have used another running back, and his skill set as a pass-catcher was of tremendous value as well. It's good news, however, for Daje Johnson, who figures to get a lot more of those repetitions vacated by Jeremy Hills. The Longhorns could use another back here, especially a versatile threat like a Dontre Wilson, but at this point, it might be hoping too much. Also, keep an eye on Little Elm runner Keaun Kinner, who has a ton of speed. If neither works out, the Longhorns might just have to double-up in 2014 instead.

Verdict: Barring a surprise (or somebody who could get pulled in by a new running back coach), Texas is potentially set here. But that's good news for 2014 backs like Justin Stockton, who might find themselves in the Longhorns' wheelhouse.
