Texas Nabs Athletic Linebacker

Most believe 2014 to be a rare class for big-time defensive talent. And Sunday, Texas plucked one of the state's best linebackers.

Dallas Carter linebacker Cameron Hampton pulled the trigger at Texas's Junior Day Sunday, sending out a "yessir" via text message to confirm his verbal pledge to the Longhorns.

Hampton had a huge junior year, earning 11-4A Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior. He makes the second Dallas ISD linebacker hauled in by the Longhorns in three years, with Dallas Skyline's Peter Jinkens being the other.

At 6-foot-2, Hampton has the frame to add some good weight, though his best attribute is thought to be his speed as a sideline-to-sideline defender. He becomes the eighth Texas commitment of this class and the second defensive commitment to San Antonio Brennan defensive end Derick Roberson.
