Texas Basketball Holds Annual Banquet

Texas sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo was awarded the Longhorns' Most Valuable Player after a vote by his teammates at the annual team banquet Thursday night.

Freshman center Prince Ibeh earned the team's Most Improved Player Award, while fellow freshman DeMarcus Holland was tapped as the Longhorns' Outstanding Defensive Player.

Kabongo was also named the team captain, as well as the Mike Wacker Comeback Award winner, after an 11-game season that saw him score 14.6 points per game, grab 5.0 rebounds per game and dish out 5.5 assists per game while stealing the ball twice per contest. Kabongo missed the first 23 games of the season to NCAA suspension.

A pair of freshmen won the off-the-court awards, with forward Ioannis Papapetrou winning the Coca-Cola Solid Citizen Award, while Javan Felix won the Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award.

Texas finished 2012-2013 with a 16-18 record, including a 7-11 mark in the Big 12.
