Three Defensive Players to Watch at Stampede

Here are three defensive players worth watching at Texas Stampede on Saturday.

1) Nick Orr, 2014 CB/S, DeSoto

In Friday's edition of The Wishbone, Orr was the mystery recruit mentioned. A TCU commit, Orr is a big-time defensive back who gets overlooked a bit because of his lack of ideal size. But make no mistake: Orr is a playmaker. And with him making his way to campus on Saturday, don't be surprised to see Orr pull the trigger and join the Texas class.

2) Jason Hall, 2014 CB/S, South Grand Prairie

Longhorn defensive backs coach Duane Akina fell in love with the former Nebraska commit's size and athleticism at the Longhorns' June 9 camp, extending Hall an offer after his performance. Hall has since decommitted from the 'Huskers, and could very well be on commitment watch as he comes back into Austin. Since committing to Nebraska, he's also earned an Oklahoma offer.

3) Tony Brown, 2014 CB, Beaumont Ozen; and Daylon Mack, 2015 DT, Gladewater

Two players for the price of one? Brown is considered the top overall in-state player in the Class of 2012, while Mack probably carries that honor for the 2015 class at this early stage. The first question with Brown is: will he make it in? He was a "maybe" to attend the event this week. The Longhorns have started making up ground here, and getting an unofficial visit Saturday would be a great step. Mack has long been considered a Texas A&M lean — and was even considered a likely Aggie commit by the end of the spring/summer — but recently called LSU a co-leader. Mack likes Texas, but the Longhorns are probably currently sitting behind those two. Can the 'Horns make it a three-way race? There's a long way to go in that recruitment.
