Ketchum Has A Leader

Fort Bend Marshall quarterback JW Ketchum says he has a leader after attending Texas Stampede.

"All-in-all, today, we had a great day and it was pretty fun," JW Ketchum said. "The coaches spent a lot of time, we got a lot of one-on-one with your position coaches. We just had a lot of fun in there."

Ketchum has emerged as one of the top in-state players in the 2015 class, largely because of his dynamic running skills. But while Ketchum could fit at any number of positions, he said he's only considering schools that are recruiting him at quarterback. That won't be an issue at Texas, he said, as the Longhorns are recruiting him at "quarterback, all the way."

That might be part of the reason why Ketchum listed the Longhorns as his favorites shortly after leaving Texas Stampede. He said his current list was Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor, "in that order," and added that the Longhorns increased their lead with a highly successful event.

"The fan support and the atmosphere around Texas [are great] … do you see how great it looks out here" Whew, it's gorgeous," Ketchum said, laughing. "It's a great school, they have a lot of fans, great fan support for every sport. The education is great, so why not?"

Ketchum said that he put the Longhorns above A&M because "it seems like every time I come here, [Texas is] topping them on something different."

"I just like how they treat you," Ketchum said. "They treat you like family. You feel like you're at home."

Ketchum said he had a great relationship with the Texas coaches, and added that the coaches said they saw something special in him.

"[It's] basically that spark they say they need," Ketchum said. "The same spark they saw in Vince. I guess they see that in me, and they think I can bring that to their school."

But Ketchum said he was also impressed with the spark the program seemed to be showing already. He called it "a successful vibe," and added that everyone was working to bring Texas back to a national championship level.

As for Ketchum, while he has a leader, don't expect him to decide too soon. He said that his plans for recruiting included slowing things down and weighing all his options.
