Strong possibilities

New Texas head coach Charlie Strong will next begin to assemble his Longhorn coaching staff in Austin. Here's what we are hearing.

Charlie Strong is now the new head coach at the University of Texas. Strong will be busy burning up the phones over the next few days as he builds his coaching staff in Austin.

Here are some things we are hearing from our sources -

Louisville defensive coordinator Vance Bedford has a meeting scheduled Monday at 2 p.m. eastern with Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich. I have been told that if the AD decided to bypass the head coaching search and promote coach Bedford as the head coach he will take that job. If the AD is interested in going through the coaching search, Bedford will join Strong in Texas as the defensive coordinator.

Coach Brian Jean-Mary has a long history with Strong and we have heard that he could join him in Texas. Jean-Mary is the linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator in Louisville.

Strength and conditioning coach Pat Moorer has a lengthy relationship with Strong as well and I expect him to have the same position with the Longhorns.

Look for Strong to have a conversation with Texas running backs coach Larry Porter very soon.

Longhorns recruiting coordinator/tight end coach Bruce Chambers comes highly recommended by the Texas AD. There's a good chance that coach Chambers remains on staff.

Keep an eye on Oklahoma State offensive line coach Joe Wickline. Wickline has a long relationship with Strong and is in his ninth year with the Cowboys. Wickline is in his 32nd year as a college football coach and is considered one of the nation's top offensive line coaches.

Wickline has been in the center of the Oklahoma State offense that led the Cowboys to more than 50 points 15 times, 60-points seven times, 70-points twice and 80-points once from 2010-2012.

Per source, a prominent SEC assistant has expressed strong interest in leaving his post for Austin. More details to come.

Will will continue to post new assistant coaching search updates on Horn's House.
