Texas, Oleka Part Ways

Texas, Oleka elect to part ways. Longhorns have two scholarship openings left for 2014-2015.

Texas and forward Obinna Oleka decided to part ways on Monday, with the Longhorns releasing Oleka from his National Letter of Intent. Oleka was a junior college transfer who inked with Texas during the Early Signing Period in November.

"We have granted Obie an unconditional release from his letter of intent," said Texas coach Rick Barnes. "There were some issues and concerns that developed over the course of this year, and it is in the best interest of both The University of Texas and Obie that he be allowed to pursue other opportunities.

"Like we do with any of our current players when situations arise, we want to do our best to make sure that Obie has every opportunity possible to succeed in the future," Barnes said. "We wish Obie the best."

Texas releasing Oleka means that, if everyone returns and signee Jordan Barnett makes it to campus as expected, the Longhorns still have two scholarship openings left for recruiting purposes for the 2014-2015 roster.
