Prospect Q&A: 2015 WR James Proche

Three-star wide receiver James Proche (Dallas/Prime Prep) fashions himself as one of the top slot receivers in the state, and with good reason.

Prime Prep didn't throw much but when it did quarterback Antonio Bennett looked Proche's way. He accounted for 296 of Prep's 477 receiving yards on 15 catches, and turned two into touchdowns.

Those numbers peaked the interest of many, including Texas' staff, which asked him to attend its junior day on Saturday.

We caught up with Proche (6-foot, 180 pounds), the No. 37 WR in the country, after his visit to see where things stand with UT.

What stood out to you today?

It was good to finally talk to coach [Les] Koenning. He was cool. He really gave me an idea for how I could fit in the offense and what they have in store for the offense.

What specifically did he have to tell you about where you fit?

He likes me in space. He also likes me as a return man. He sees me like Daje Johnson.

Does that appeal to you?

It does because I model my game after him because he's more of a shorter guy that's really quick. It would be nice to play with [Daje] [DaMarkus] Lodge, [Ryan] Newsome. It would be nice to play with them.

Do you think you will get offered?

In the spring I think I will pick up an offer.

What would a Texas offer do for you?

Ever since I was younger I've been a Texas fan. Now that I'm a recruit I'm a fan of everybody. But growing up I loved watching Vince Young, Jordan Shipley and all of them. It would be nice to get that Texas offer. They would definitely be at the top.

What most appealed to you today?

The weight room and the new weight lifting coach. I really like what he has to bring to the table.

What was the main difference between this coaching staff and Mack Brown's staff?

They are more laid back than the last coaching staff, which is cool. I'm used to an upbeat coaching staff but I can adapt to it.

When did you first get in contact with this staff?

I talked to [Aledo wide receiver] Ryan Newsome, who was offered last week. That's like my brother right there. Coach [Charlie] Strong talked to Ryan about me down there so it might be a coincidence.

Is it frustrating at all that Newsome is getting all these offers and you aren't at the moment?

No not at all. That's my brother. We've been having talks since we were 13 that once we started getting offers that there is no jealousy.

Who have you been hearing from lately?

Past few months I have been hearing from SMU, TCU, Big 12, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Florida and Georgia. Everybody is just telling me to be patient and wait until spring ball.

What are your upcoming plans?

I planned on getting to Alabama. Will probably make a visit to Texas Tech.
