Coaching clinic brings about huge opportunity

It wouldn't be a stretch, at all, to say that the next three days will be some of the most important Charlie Strong and his staff has faced since taking over Texas' program.

No, recruits aren't at the center of it but the next closest thing will be during the 2014 High School Coaches Clinic.

Strong has made up ground on the lack of experience recruiting the state of Texas he arrived in Austin with, but these next few days should help him take even bigger strides.

He's following in the footsteps of a head coach in Mack Brown who was as good as anyone in the country at building and maintaining relationships with high school coaches, particularly those in Texas.

While there's no game to be played, there's immense pressure on he and UT's staff to blow this weekend out like an early season non-conference opponent.

And if you don't think relationships with these coaches is about as important as winning games, take a look at what four of the top Texas high school coaches had to say about that in an anonymous survey LonghornDigest released in early March. Recruiting is the backbone of every program and high school coaches have a big say in how that plays out.
