The hits keep on coming for the Longhorns.
Longhorn freshman WR/KR Roderick Bernard sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Saturday's game at Kansas State, Texas Head Athletic Trainer for Football Anthony Pass said on Monday.
Bernard will undergo reconstructive surgery and is out for the season.
This is a huge blow to a Texas special teams unit that has been average at best this season.
Bernard has been one of the few bright spots in his roll as a kickoff returner. His return to the Texas 28-yard line in the final seconds of the Iowa State game gave UT's coaching staff enough confidence to go for the win instead of playing for overtime. The Longhorns kicked a game-winning field goal with three seconds left.
Bernard, who had several offers out of high school, including from Alabama, is the first person in his family to go to college.
