Texas Gearing Up for Huge Recruiting Weekend

Head coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns coaching staff are set to host numerous 2015, 2016, and even a few 2017 recruits this weekend. This is the first official "big" weekend Texas has had since Strong and company arrived in Austin.

Texas is hosting its first, big recruiting weekend of the 2014 regular seasons with numerous 2015, 2016 and even a few 2017 recruits coming to Austin - some on official visits, others unofficially - as Texas takes on West Virginia.

Texas will bring in numerous visitors this weekend that most recruiting fans are familiar with and some even the most diehard of recruiting fans have yet to read about.

There are six official visitors this weekend.

The number had grown to seven, but 2015 S Ronnie Harrison (6-2, 192) of Tallahassee Florida State University School had to reschedule his visit for a later date.

2015 MLB Cecil Cherry, Lakeland (Fla) Victory Christian Academy

2015 TE Devonaire Clarington, Miami (Fla) Booker T. Washington High School

2015 S Davante Davis, Miami (Fla) Booker T. Washington High School

Texas commitment 2015 QB Zach Gentry, Albuquerque (NM) Eldorado High School

2015 WR/DB Tim Irvin, Palmetto Bay (Fla) Westminster Christian School

2015 WR DeAndre McNeal, Mesquite (TX) Poteet High School

In addition to QB Zach Gentry, Texas will have six other 2015 verbal commitments and one 2016 commitment on unofficial visits.

2015 RB Kirk Johnson (5-11, 190), San Jose (CA) Valley Christian HS, a 2015 Texas commitment

2015 S Jamile Johnson (6-0, 205), South Oak Cliff

2015 OL Ronnie Major (6-6, 300), Huntsville

2015 RB Jordan Stevenson (5-9, 188), South Oak Cliff

2015 LB Cameron Townsend (6-1, 206), Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point

2015 OLB/DE Breckyn Hager (6-3, 220) of Westlake should also be on campus this weekend.

2015 Texas commit DE Charles Omenihu was supposed to attend, but that visit seems unlikely at this point.

2016 Texas commit WR Collin Johnson (6-4,200), San Jose (CA) Valley Christian will also be in Austin.

WR J.F. Thomas (6-4,180) of South Oak Cliff is expected on campus this weekend.

CB Holton Hill (6-2, 180) of Houston Lamar, who is coveted by Texas, will also be in Austin on an unofficial visit.

The 2016 class will not be out done this weekend as Texas could have as many as 15 to 20 players from next year's class on campus this weekend.

WR/TE Devante Alexander, Royse City (TX) High School.

OL Hunter Bowers, Corpus Christi (TX) Carroll High School. Bowers checks in at 6-foot-5, 300-pounds.

QB/ATH Myles Duke (6-1, 190), Baytown (TX) Goose Creek Memorial.

MLB Nathaniel Evans (6-2, 225) of River Ridge (Louisiana) John Curtis HS, is making the 7-hour drive to Austin.

Texas has two wide receiver prospects committed for 2016 with Reggie Hemphill (6-1, 174) of Manvel, and Collin Johnson.

It is not 100%, but Hemphill could also possibly join Johnson in Austin this weekend.

OL Darrius Mosley, (6-4, 280), Killeen HS

RB D'Vaughn Pennamon (5-11, 195) of Manvel is extremely fired up for his trip to Austin. He will bring his mother and possibly a cousin.

OL Zach Shackelford (6-4, 290) of Belton is coming with his father and a family friend who is a diehard Texas Longhorn fan.

OL/DL Douglas Tucker (6-5, 290), Dallas (TX) Parish Episcopal School.

TE/DE Johnnie Williams (6-5, 260) of Austin LBJ should also be on campus to watch the Texas/West Virginia game.

Two 2017 prospects to keep an eye on this weekend are Baron Browning and Anthony Hines.

Browning is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound middle linebacker from Kennedale (TX) High School. Hines (6-2, 215) is a linebacker from Plano East.

More on the Way?

A few more players you might find in Austin this weekend could be Kris Boyd, Demarco Boyd and Charles Omenihu. Omenihu is not scheduled to attend as of today but was earlier in the week. The Boyd brothers have stated the will attend the game on Saturday. Breckyn Hager should also be in this weekend.
