Mike Williams on Charlie Strong

Mike Williams is the No 9 ranked defensive tackle prospect in the country for 2016. Numerous football programs including the Texas Longhorns are pursuing the four-star defensive standout.

The Texas coaching staff taking full advantage of the off week went to check in on the No 85 ranked player regardless of position. Williams checks in from Fort Worth (TX) All Saints Episcopal School. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound linemen recently had shoulder surgery that will require roughly four months of rehabilitation.

"I think coach [Charlie] Strong has finally implemented his style of physical football which is hard to do in his first year," Williams said. "He is doing a tremendous job of turning the program around. Texas is showing me some interest. I feel as though they will offer soon, and it will be immediately one I will have to contemplate at the top of my list."

Williams has a motor that never stops. He plays with great pad leverage and a frame that can easily add weight moving forward.

"I can bring a hungry sideline to sideline play, and I will probably be back in Austin for junior day," Williams said.

Williams has offers from UCLA, Tulsa, Texas Tech, TCU, SMU, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Mississippi, Michigan and Kansas State.
