Cherry Glad to be a Longhorn

Middle linebacker Cecil Cherry was the first member of the "Florida Five" to pull the trigger to the Texas Longhorns. Since that time, Texas has landed four more players from the state of Florida.

The Texas Longhorns are putting together one of the top recruiting classes in America for 2015 in large part due to players such as Cecil Cheery.

Cecil Cherry joins Gilbert Johnson, Devonaire Clarington, Tim Irvin and Davante Davis as the "Florida Five."

Cherry checks in from Frostproof (Fla) at 6-foot, 230-pounds and has become a fan favorite for Longhorn fans.

"It will be a dream come true to play for coach [Charlie] Strong," Cheery said. I will be the first kid to play with him out of a little school called Frostproof. The biggest thing, I got to do, is be a leader and be a big game changer. I will come in with the mindset of a big time player making big time plays. I am working on my speed, changing direction and getting to the ball before I get to college."

Even though Cherry will leave the state to play for the Longhorns he will have friends with him.

"To go to Texas with the Florida Five and play with my brother Chris Nelson it's going to put Florida on the map with Texas," Cherry said. "We will become better men in life and get our degree from Texas. I love that coach Strong and his staff care about your degree and like he told me your talent on the field speaks for itself. I took my time and said he is right. In my mind, you don't have to go to the SEC to make it to the league. A player like me can go anywhere and become an impact player and lead my team to the national title as freshmen. I have big shoes to fill, and I pray to God like I did about my decision to go to Texas. He has me covered."
