The 411

One of the best ways to combat the Big 12’s high-flying offenses is to intimidate them with a hard-hitting, ball-hawk safety. The Longhorns think they’ve found that guy in four-star DeShon Elliott.

Elliott, the No. 14 safety and No. 203 player overall in 2015, has been committed to Texas since March 18.

Despite his commitment, numerous teams from across the country have tried to lure him away. Those schools include Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Iowa, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Scout.com’s Take

Elliott played both safety and linebacker and could realistically play either spot on the next level or in a hybrid role where he can use his tackling skills and coverage skills in tandem. He is a hard-hitter and a tough tackler, who is effective against the run and has the speed to chase down ball carriers sideline-to-sideline. He has shown the ability to make his presence felt to receivers and disrupt the passing game with his field authority.
