The 411

Three-star running back Kirk Johnson has waited all his life to play for the Longhorns. His father, Johnny Johnson, is a former All-American defensive back for Texas.

Johnson is rated as the No. 2 running back in California, No. 4 RB on the West Coast and No. 49 RB overall in 2015.

He and his brother, 2016 WR Collin Johnson, were both offered by UT during a Junior Day visit and committed shortly after getting back home. Kirk chose Texas over offers from Arizona, Cal, USC, Utah and Washington.

Johnson really made a name for himself on a national scale by winning the SPARQ MVP honors at the Oakland NFTC with a score of 117.42.

Unless Johnson can find a way on the field in special teams situations, he’ll probably redshirt as a true freshman. Texas will likely have Johnathan Gray back as well as sophomore D’Onta Foreman, redshirt freshman Duke Catalon, fellow 2015 commitment Tristian Houston and then another 2015 running back yet to make his decision for Texas.
