Which of these visits is most important in your eyes?
Gabe Brooks’ take
We talked about the cornerback position a few weeks ago on the HD Roundtable and I still think that's where the top focus would be in my eyes. Getting Hill or Boyd would be great, but landing both would be spectacular for one program. Hill had massive production as a senior with a staggering 12 interceptions and 12 pass breakups, while Boyd was a two-way star for a state championship team. That proves that not only are these guys highly-projected recruits, but they back up their reputation with production, which isn't always necessary to prove a prospect's worth, but certainly is encouraging.
Despite being a longtime LSU commit, Brossette seems to be in play based on what Higs has said on the forum, but you've gotta think the Longhorns are gonna wind up in OK shape in the backfield regardless of what happens there. There has been a want for a top-line cornerback prospect in this class for a long time. With Hill and Boyd, you've got two very good options at that position who just happen to be very much in play for Texas.
Jason Higdon’s take
When you bring in so much talent in one weekend it's hard to distinguish one player over another.
Texas is trying to fill a lot of holes in the recruiting class of 2015 none bigger than the corner position. You don't find many guys as smooth as Holton Hill.
He has a nice frame good size and he is extremely athletic. For me, I really love what he brings to the table and I think he will fit in nicely with the scheme that Charlie Strong runs.
Chip Brown’s take
Holton Hill is the guy visiting this weekend I think Texas really needs to have a great visit so the coaches can bring him in for a landing. He's the big corner Texas has coveted from the beginning at a position of need.
He's long, athletic, versatile and seems like a tough, low-maintenance, blue-collar guy. And Charlie Strong needs more and more of those types of players.
Hill is uncommitted and a guy Strong and this staff covet.
There are some amazing playmakers visiting this weekend who are also not currently committed to Texas.
Who wouldn't love to have a Nick Brossette at RB? And credit the Texas staff for still being in the picture for him.
But if I had to mention a close second for someone who needs to have a great visit, it would be OL Patrick Vahe.
I think Vahe is the most important OL commit of the 6 OL commits in this class.
He's the one high school OL prospect I think can come in and start as a freshman. And he represents the attitude Joe Wickline and Charlie Strong want to build the Texas program around in the trenches. I think Vahe is solid for Texas, but he's a guy whose LOI is one of the first you want to be faxed in.
William Wilkerson’s take
I think Patrick Vahe’s visit is critical for a few reasons.
One, he is the top lineman in Texas’ class in my estimation who could be in line for early PT if he comes in and handles his business, which I fully expect him to. While I think his commitment to UT is in good standing, you can never be too sure. So getting him on campus is a must.
Two, having someone like Vahe, who embodies precisely what this coaching staff is looking for as far as will-power and toughness, rub shoulders with the uncommitted targets this weekend is a huge plus for the staff.
All that said, Vahe would fall a close second on my list of most important visitors to Holton Hill.
From watching him play, and from hearing about him from those I trust most (our Midlands gurus), there might not be a better cornerback in the state than this 6-foot-3 DB.
He had 12 interceptions and 12 pass breakups this season, and you damn well know he wasn’t getting thrown to a ton. Those are insane numbers.
If Texas is going into this think as one of his favorites. If UT can somehow manage to blow him away this weekend and garner his commitment on NSD, then you’ve got the type of lockdown corner that Chris Vaughn, Vance Bedford and Charlie Strong have long been looking for in this class.
