UT Official Visit Preview: Cameron Townsend

Cameron Townsend will be one of eight currently committed recruits making an official visit to Texas this weekend. The four-star outside linebacker is the No 13 ranked player at his position respectively. He also checks in as the No 181 ranked player in the country regardless of position.

Cameron Townsend is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound outside linebacker from Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point. Townsend held offers from Texas, Baylor, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon State and Syracuse to name a few before deciding on the Longhorns.

Townsend is a very aggressive football player that will fit nicely into the Charlie Strong defensive scheme. He is very athletic and moves well laterally. The only thing he is lacking is ideal weight. Once he arrives in Austin, he will pack on the weight.

Scout.com Take:

Townsend is a linebacker who uses speed to his advantage. He is good in pass coverage assignments and can cover slot receivers. Additionally, he flies to the football and is aggressive against the run. He is a big-hitter and a sound tackler. He is that new age style of linebacker who is not a liability against the run or the pass. Will need to get bigger and stronger. He runs faster in pads than his listed 40-time of 4.61.
