Myles Turner lit up Texas Tech, and the Longhorns reached .500 in Big 12 play by doing what Texas was supposed to do - beat inferior opponents (TCU and Texas Tech) before the real test begins. That starts Tuesday at Oklahoma.

5 THOUGHTS ON UT'S 56-41 WIN OVER Texas Tech

#1 ... Myles Turner played like a lottery pick tonight.

He was 10-of-13 shooting for 25 points with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.

No other Longhorn made more than 2 FGs, and no other Longhorn scored more than 6 points (Connor Lammert and Javan Felix each had 6 pts).

#2 ... Texas' zone defense did a really good job of extending out to Tech's shooters.

After the Red Raiders started the 2nd half 5-of-9 shooting and cut UT's lead to 4 points, Tech ended up shooting 7 of 25 from 3-point range and just 33.3 percent on FGs for the game.

#3 ... Texas got off to a slow start, hitting just 3 of its first 12 shots, but Turner helped UT overcome it until he got some help.

The Horns were down by as many as 5 and trailed by 2 with 8 minutes left in the first half. But they hit their last 5 shots (including two 3s by Javan Felix and another 3 by Jonathan Holmes) in an 11-0 run and led 29-19 at intermission.

The 3 by Holmes was his only made FG of the game (1-of-5 FG) while scoring 5 points with 4 rebounds and 1 block in his return to action after missing two games with concussion symptoms.

Texas ended up shooting 44.4 percent for the game and suffered only 7 turnovers.

#4 ... Horns did decent job of getting the ball into the big men in the second half, and Tech sent them to the foul line.

After not shooting a single FT in the first half, Texas was 11-of-19 from the foul line in the second half (57.9 percent).

Here's Texas from the FT line: Turner was 4-of-6 ... Cam Ridley 1-of-4 ... John Holmes 2-of-4 ... Connor Lammert 2-of-3 ... Prince Ibeh 2-of-2

#5 ... Texas, now 17-8 overall and 6-6 in Big 12 play, did what it was supposed to do against inferior opponents (TCU and Tech) at home this week.

Now comes the real test of where the Horns are ....

Next up: at No. 17 Oklahoma on Tuesday ... home vs No. 14 Iowa State next Saturday ... at No. 21 WVU Feb 24 ... and at No. 8 Kansas on the 28th.
