Big News: Tristen Wallace Decommits from Tech

Tristen Wallace (DeSoto, Texas) has opened up his recruitment after telling HornsDigest that he decommitted from Texas Tech on Thursday night.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Wallace had been committed to the Red Raiders since Jan. 4, but decided to back off that verbal pledge due to all of his offers.

"Want to open back up my recruitment and take it day by day," he said.

So where does this leave Texas? Well, you can be assured that the Longhorns are squarely in the mix even with the recent commitment of fellow four-star QB Shane Buechele (Arlington, Texas/Lamar).

Yessir, always!" Wallace responded when asked if the Longhorns were in the mix.

Texas only recently offered Wallace on Feb. 19 but has been recruiting him since his freshman season. His older siser, Leilani Wallace, is a student at UT and actually works in the Longhorns football office.

“She really wants me down there,” he said. “She tells me what the coaches say about me all the time. She has a really good relationship with the coaches.”

It’s yet to be seen exactly how much pull his sister will have in the end. Wallace has a few things he needs to see himself.

“Texas had one of the best recruiting classes in 2015,” he said. “If they can just put that together and have a true winning season and compete for a national championship, that’s really all it is. UT is a great school overall. Charlie Strong is doing a great job with that program.”

In addition to Texas and Texas Tech, Wallace has offers from Baylor, Houston, Indiana, Kansas State, Nebraska, Ohio State, SMU, TCU, and UCLA.
