HD Debate: Hopeful Post-Spring Headlines

What headline coming out of the spring should Charlie Strong most want to hear?

Chip Brown

Charlie Strong had his offensive staff study several offenses in the off-season, including Auburn, Ohio State, North Carolina and Arizona.

So Strong should want to hear that an offense is coming together that features the strengths of his quarterbacks' legs while not completely getting away from the pro-style passing concepts Watson has taught for years.

The biggest part of his revamped offense having success is going to be based on the improvement of his offensive line. So another headline he should want to hear coming out of the spring is that increased competition has indeed helped change the mindset of that position.

Last year, the offensive line gave out mentally (and thus physically) when times got tough. Strong never wants to see that again, and there's a feeling the four early enrollees on the OL (OT Brandon Hodges, OT Tristan Nickelson, OG Garrett Thomas and OT Connor Williams) have already helped improve the O-line.

Even if the QB position isn't where everyone wants it to be coming out of the spring, an improved offensive line would do wonders to improve Texas' QB play.

William Wilkerson

Aside from getting more clarity with the seemingly never-ending quarterback situation, and the offensive line, Charlie Strong should want to hear that UT is in better shape at middle linebacker than he envisioned.

The thought of starting a true freshman at MLB at Notre Dame to begin the season has to be causing Texas’ staff sleep deprivation. But there’s a really good possibility that could happen depending on how quickly Anthony Wheeler or Cecil Cherry pick things up when they get to Austin.

Dalton Santos is experienced but I’m just not sold that the staff believes he can be the enforcer in the teeth of the defense that they need.

I’ve been a fan of Tim Cole’s for a while and I think he’ll have a say in this (if MLB is where Brian Jean-Mary and Vance Bedford choose to play him). But he’s vastly inexperienced when it comes to in-game action.

This is a huge opportunity for both guys to prove themselves to the staff before those talented freshmen LBs get to campus. Wheeler has a chance to be an all-conference player and we all know the motivation that Cherry possesses.

Say what you want about Steve Edmond but the dude wracked up tackles. His size and physicality will be missed.
