Longhorns DB suffers injury

Texas' defense took a hit on Saturday when one of its defensive standouts suffered an injury

Spoke with a source who tells me that Sheroid Evans, who was in line to become a starter at CB for the Longhorns this season, suffered a knee injury on Saturday to the same knee that caused him to miss the entire 2014 season.

The source said they believe that Evans may have torn something in that knee, which also cost him four games in 2013. Evans is scheduled to have an MRI soon to find out the severity of the injury.

The news was first reported by Orangebloods.com's Anwar Richardson.

Prior to the injury, reports from Winter conditioning and spring ball indicated that Evans was looking as good as ever and was likely to pair up with Duke Thomas to form Texas' cornerbacks duo.

There is no official timetable for when Evans would be able to return.

Moving forward this spring, the Longhorns will likely have to rely on several mostly inexperienced players like Bryson Echols (junior), Antwuan Davis (sophomore) and redshirt freshmen John Bonney and Jermaine Roberts.

The Longhorns' signing of highly-rated 2015 cornerbacks Holton Hill and Kris Boyd just became that much more critical as well. Though those two players won't begin participating in team activities until fall camp.
