Name to Know: Davion Curtis

Get to know 2016 WR Davion Curtis (Temple, Texas), who is putting together quite the offers list.

If you haven’t heard about Davion Curtis until now, chances are his name will resonate with you as the 2015 football season grows long.

That’s because the 6-0, 180-pound wide receiver from Temple (Texas) is quickly becoming a coveted recruit to programs from across the country.

“The process has been great for me so far,” he said. “I’ve been offered by Texas Tech, Kansas State, Toledo, Tulsa, SMU, Kansas and Wisconsin. It’s been a blessing so far. I just have to get better with my technique.”

His first offer came from SMU shortly after he completed a junior campaign that included 40 receptions for 901 yards and eight touchdowns.

“When I got my first offer from SMU I knew my time was coming because I have just worked so hard for it,” he said. Curtis said that if he had to guess why these schools have offered it would probably center around his speed.

“My ability to get by the defensive back pretty quickly is good,” he said. “My route running is pretty nice and so are my hands. I just work on everything to get better.”

Of the offers that he has now, three are standing out to him: Tech, Kansas State and SMU.

“Those schools are all standing out to me,” he said. “They throw the ball. Tech throws the ball a lot. My coach just told me, ‘You need to look at Tech a lot because they have a reputation for throwing the ball a lot.’ They are known for receivers.”

But what about Texas, a school that resides just 50 miles south of his hometown?

“I haven’t had any conversations with them,” he said. “But I want to visit this summer.”

Asked what comes to mind when thinking about UT, Curtis responded: “Fan base. Championships. Teamwork. Hard working guys. They have kids that have speed and are known for having speed. When I was playing Pee Wee football I was a Longhorn and I’ve always loved being a Longhorn.”

Curtis said he’d camp at UT, SMU and TCU for sure this summer but will likely add more to his plate.
