My Take Brandon Jones

Charlie Strong, Vance Bedford and Chris Vaughn are establishing themselves as some of the top defensive coaches in America. Texas pulled in arguably the top defensive backs unit in 2015, and the group is poised to do it again in 2016.

Brandon Jones checks in at 6-foot, 190-pounds. The four-star stand out from Nacogdoches is the No 1 ranked safety in the country. Jones will make an unofficial visit to Texas this weekend. To say he is excited about this visit would be an understatement.

”Looking forward to just actually being able to take the time and get to know all the coaches and hopefully see some players,” Jones said.

Inside the Numbers: Overall Rank 39

Position Rank No 1

Midland Safety Rank No 1

Texas Safety Rank No 1

Jones has great body control, tackling ability and toughness. Take:

It's no secret as to why colleges want Jones. He can tackle, cover ground and at times make the big play in the passing game or run support. On the tape, he shows a wide array of skills. He is very aware and has a physically imposing presence. He plays under control, limiting mistakes. That shows great poise. He chews up a lot of ground, whether it is coming down hill to make a tackle in run support or covering laterally to help make a tackle.

Jones holds offers from some of the biggest names in college football. Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas have all extended Brandon Jones a scholarship.

This trip will go a long way in determining where Jones ends up. If he makes this scheduled trip and spends the time with the coaching staff I believe Texas increases their chances to land the No 1 safety in America.
