In this week's HD Mailbag I answer questions about weekend's visitors, depth chart for ND & more.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER bighec01:

Other then Hemphill & the Jones's did any other recruits take a un-official visit this weekend?

ANSWER:

Mark Jackson and Barron Browning stopped by as well.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER watson206:

Who are the most likely attrition candidates left on the roster? Over/under on academic casualties on the incoming freshmen?

ANSWER:

A couple of names to keep an eye on are Alex Anderson and Erik Huhn. Garrett Gray is an interesting player as well.

I’ll set the over/under on 1.5. But not saying which way I’ll go… yet!

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER Stefdakiid:

How big of a year do you think Naashon Hughes will have now that he's had a full season of experience?

Will a year under Shaka help Taylor's path to the league? Or Will Taylor's return help Shaka's path to success at Texas?

ANSWER:

Hughes is in line for a monster season. I think he could be looking at 1st or 2nd-team All-Big 12 honors. He very well could be the most athletic player on the defense. And to think he started off as a grey shirt.

What I think is really going to help Hughes have a breakout season is to have Shiro/Cottrell have big seasons themselves to take some of the pressure off his side of the ball. With the way the latter two played this spring I think that will be the case.

It is definitely a bit of both in regards to your second question. These two will help each other. I found it interesting when I asked Shaka about his conversations with Taylor that he told me that he didn’t set out to get Taylor back. He wanted whatever was in Taylor’s best interest to happen. That says a lot.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER bearkat73:

Mark Jackson plays for one of our high schools. Same school Malcolm Brown came out of. What are the odds the Horns get him?

ANSWER:

As of right now I wouldn’t expect this one to happen. That’s all I can say about that right now.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER Bigdaddy6363:

Do you think we lead for Browning since he wanted this offer this early on? Not trying to start anything up; I was just wondering.

ANSWER:

So hard to say because it is so early. But I do think Texas positioned itself really well and was wise to offer him when it did (offering just before the state track meet when there would be a lot of recruits on campus).

Like you mentioned, though, this was an offer he was waiting on. The fact that he already has the offer, has already met the staff, and that Strong is a defensive-minded head coach, you have to like where UT stands with him right now.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER MBHORNSFAN:

1. Tevin Mack to the good guys?

2. Projected depth chart when we kickoff at ND?

3. Even though we are no longer playing aggie it feels like they are becoming a bigger rival than OU. Thoughts?

ANSWER:

1. UT is in good shape at the moment. Anything can happen until his decision is announced though.

Swoopes, Gray, De La Torre, Daje, Marcus, Jacorey, Hutchins, Flowers, Doyle, Perkins, Williams.

Shiro, Naashon, Tank, Ridgeway, Cole, Jefferson, Freeman, Haines, Duke, Hall, Hill (Bonney – nickel).

I get what you are saying but unless UT and A&M meet regularly I have to give the edge to OU. From a fans standpoint, there is no question that A&M is a bigger rival. But on the field is where rivalries are ultimately tested. So I’ll give the nod to OU.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER Bev022:

Why is Texas not going after Golson? ND athletic director stated they have not blocked any of his transfer request.

ANSWER:

From everything we heard it was because ND had, indeed, blocked him from going to any of its 2015 opponents. I had not seen ND’s AD say that. Only going off of what I’ve heard personally.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER potroman:

Any word from NFL scouts about our 2016 guys?

ANSWER:

There hasn’t been much talk about them that I’ve heard other than about Johnathan Gray.

Daje Johnson and Marcus Johnson both need really big, consistent seasons to make up for lost time (Daje – suspension; Marcus – just not making a big impact like many thought he would/should).

The player I was most interested in seeing how he progressed in the eyes of the NFL was Sheroid Evans. But it looks like his injury is going to keep him off the field for an extended period of time. If he can somehow stay healthy, I think he could make a roster down the road.
