QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER watson206:

Struggling to think of questions this time of year....

Does becoming big 12 champs eliminate the Augie leaving discussion?

Any updates on the "like/hookem" button?

Can we get more stories like chips recent one on kirk? Those get me through the summer

ANSWER:

Any and all questions are appreciated!

I think you’ll see Augie back next season. Winning the Big 12 was huge (obviously). But to do it with the team he had, with so many young players making big contributions and with so many injuries to the pitching staff, I think he comes back. And I think he deserves it.

As for the “Like/”HookEm” button, it is something our tech team is thinking about and considering. This is pretty much out of my hands. I hope it happens though.

We absolutely will be putting out more stories like Chip’s on Kirk. That was a great read. Fingers crossed we will have one this week.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER maximus5586:

Regarding recruiting for the next football class offensively and defensively what position offer the best opportunity for early playing time?

Projected strength and weakness on this years football team.

Who is going to be Texas' biggest threat at wr this year?

ANSWER:

I’m assuming you are talking about 2016. If so, and I hope so because that’s the direction I’m taking this question, I’ll go with defensive tackle, maybe full back/h-back and that’s really about it.

And to be completely honest, I don’t feel comfortable listing any of these positions because I do think 2016 is the season that Strong will take this program to new heights.

If you look at how things are shaping up the Longhorns are going to return so much depth in 2016, especially when you consider how many freshmen should contribute this season. Texas should be in good shape.

Strength of UT’s team will be the defensive line. As the season grows long I think you’ll see the linebackers and offensive line turn into a strength.

When you are talking about weaknesses you have to look at the kicking game until Nick Rose proves us wrong.

Texas’ biggest threat at WR is going to be Marcus Johnson. I truly believe he’ll step up and be that go-to guy that Strong has tested him to be. He’s got the size and speed to do it, and he’s got the motivation: NFL scouts will be watching him closely.

If it’s not M. Johnson I could see it being Daje Johnson or Jacorey Warrick, this years spring darling,

All of these guys better be on top of their game, though, because these freshmen are coming to earn snaps right away. This is probably the position that I am most excited to see during fall camp.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER DiggsTX:

Which of the 3 basketball recruits coming in do you expect to make the biggest impact next season? What does each recruit bring to the table?

ANSWER:

Tough because I think all three bring immediate value. But if I had to pick one I’d probably go with Tevin Mack.

He is similar to Jordan Barnett but I think he’s a more polished shooter, which the team desperately needs. And I think his confidence is there whereas Barnett is still struggling a bit to figure out just how good he can be.

Mack is more of a perimeter threat than most small forwards and because Smart’s system relies so heavily on the deep ball I’m going to go with him.

Roach is a pure scorer. He was born with the ability to put the ball in the rim in a variety of different ways. He plays above the rim even though he’s only 6-3. But I think he could struggle a bit until he puts on some muscle. He’s thin.

Davis has such good vision. I was watching his film a couple of days ago and I was really amazed at how he always had his head up looking for the quick outlet, which is something this staff will preach.

Davis is incredibly unselfish but does a great job of getting to the middle of the paint and can create/finish with either hand.

Mack, as I mentioned, can really shoot the three. And for someone his size, he can really, really dribble. His handles are on point, which is a must if you are going to play in Smart’s offense.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER jumangi:

What is your way too early prediction on how the basketball season goes next season?

Any idea when UT will play VCU that was required when they hired Smart?

ANSWER:

I think this really hinges on how Smart uses his big men and how quickly these freshmen can come in and shoot the three.

I’m going to say that Texas finishes in the top 4 of the Big 12 and makes the NCAA Tournament as at least a 7 seed.

Smart thinks it will happen in Year 3 or Year 4 of his contract.

QUESTION FROM HD SUBSCRIBER 2football:

With Alex dlt playing so many TE snaps in the spring game and no Fullback snaps that I remember, is the full back position being phased out of this years offense ?

ANSWER:

I don’t think it’s being completely phased out, not at all. Remember, the coaching staff kept everything very vanilla at the spring game.

It was a nice part of the run game last season and I expect there to be an adequate amount of FB usage this season.

Texas is really fortunate to have De La Torre in this regard. He’s a tough-nosed kid that’s played plenty of football at UT. A former LB, he’s definitely not afraid of contact.
