Daily Dose: Defensive Offer Possibilities

Welcome to the Daily Dose, a daily collection of random musings surrounding Longhorns athletics and recruiting.

In today’s edition I’ll take a look at five defensive players Texas should strongly consider offering.

If you’ve got a topic you’d like discussed in a future edition email us at HornsDigest@gmail.com.

Roy is one of the top defensive tackles in the state of Texas without a Longhorns offer. The old staff was after him hard.

Charlie Strong and his staff are starting to warm up on the 6-foot-2, 300-pound space eater. The staff recently watched him practice and he tells our Ahmard Vital he will likely come to a UT camp this summer.

He has a top three of Baylor, LSU and Missouri.

This 6-foot-2, 270-pound DT is starting to pick up some momentum on the recruiting trail, pulling in offers from Colorado State, Illinois, Nevada and Toledo.

Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oregon and Mississippi State are showing strong interest.

He’s a big UT fan.

Tucker was once a Scout Top 300 Watch List member before he missed his junior season due to an injury.

Despite not having any junior film he picked up offers from New Mexico, North Texas, Texas State and Tulane. Think about that for a second. That’s hard to do.

He told our Greg Powers that he loved the way Charlie Strong was turning the program around.

"What I like about Texas is how Charlie Strong has been turning around the program," Tucker said. "How they discipline their players. It is just like Parish.”

Texas would be a dream offer along with Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

Jay Norvell visited him as recently as May 19, so it’s clear that he’s at least on UT’s radar. The day prior to Texas’ WR coach visiting he picked up an offer from Iowa.

Fitzgerald has the size, speed and smarts to play at a program like UT’s.

Several programs have already singled him out as offer worthy including, Boise State, Cal, Iowa, Kansas State, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, SMU, Texas Tech, Vandy, and Virginia.

Texas has put itself in solid position with several DE’s right now, especially with Erick Fowler. But with top targets like Mark Jackson, McTelvin Agim, and Justin Madubuike all looking like long shots at the moment, getting in with Fitzgerald before his senior season might not be a bad idea.

He’s a cornerback with good size (6-foot, 175 pounds) and good speed (4.4 range) with offers from Baylor, Houston, Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma.

Of the seven CB’s Texas has offered in 2016, only Eric Cuffee and Parrish Cobb seem to be legitimate options, with someone like Trayvon Mullen on the outside looking in.

UT isn’t in dire need of CB’s in this class – not like it was in 2015 at least – but it needs to put itself in the best position possible to land a couple, and getting an offer out to Franklin would do that.
