Four-star DE Mark Jackson Discusses Top 3

Four-star DE Mark Jackson (Cibolo, Texas/Steele) discusses his Top 3 with

Four-star defensive end Mark Jackson (Cibolo, Texas/ Steele) seems like the ideal fit for the Longhorns.

He goes to school an hour away, which just so happens to be the alma mater of former Texas running back Malcolm Brown, and plays at a position of need for UT.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Austin will be where he’ll spend his next three to four years does it?

“Right now I’m between Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma,” he said. “Then schools such as UCLA, Oregon, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida State are all even. Right now I’m really between those three.”

Jackson (6-foot-2, 226 pounds) said that the Aggies are leading right now with Oklahoma sitting second and Texas in third.

What is it about A&M that he likes so much?

“Not only the environment of College Station and feeling comfortable there, but the scheme, the league that they are in and Myles Garrett,” he said. “I feel like I can fit in with that defense.”

Jackson said he plays very similar to A&M’s star defensive end and could see himself replacing the massive DE or playing opposite of him.

How about A&M’s ties with the SEC?

“It’s really not a big deal,” he said. “Being the SEC doesn’t have a huge effect on it but it does complement it.”

For as much as Austin normally helps Texas land recruits, it’s actually having a reverse impact on Jackson.

“With Texas I like the environment but I’m not sure about the whole city environment,” he said. “The traffic and how busy downtown Austin is.”

A few weeks ago Jackson was able to experience Austin again when he and his mother came for an unofficial visit. He said his mom liked everything about UT and that the time spent with the coaching staff helped Texas’ chances.

He’s still wanting to get to know Brick Haley more than he does though.

“I met Brick Haley a couple of times but I don’t exactly have a good relationship with him,” he said. “I have more of a relationship with my recruiter Coach [Vance] Bedford, but not Coach Haley.”

Time is running out for Jackson and Haley to build their relationship though. He tells me he’ll announce his commitment “early summer,” which bodes well for A&M and not so much for the Longhorns.
