But, hey, never say “never” right?
It’s going to take the stars aligning just right for Charlie Strong to get Clayton away from the SEC.
Not that Strong and Co., don’t have it in them – see UT’s 2015 class and the number of Florida recruits that signed. But he’s already built strong relationships wth the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.
“I like Alabama, Florida, and Ole Miss the most right now," he told Scout.com's Chad Simmons on May 14. "I like schools in the EC because of the speed and the type of players that play for those schools."
The Longhorns, on June 17, added their name to the ever-growing list of schools that have offered the 6-foot-3, 217-pound rush end, who plays at the same school as former five-star DT Montavious Adams.
So is Texas a serious contender for Clayton? We asked the 6-foot-3, 217-pound DE on Tuesday.
His response was straight and too the point: “Yes.”
What did the offer mean to him?
“It means more to me and more because people are starting to see my true talent,” he said.
What does he like about UT?
“Just the magnificent tradition they have there,” he said.
How would he describe his game?
“I’m the fastest DE in my class and always will be the best,” he said.
Will he visit?
So there’s that. Take it as you will.
It’s a long shot for sure, especially with the big dogs of the SEC in hot pursuit. But you just never know if he actually makes it down to Austin.
