Shaka Smart gets commitment from 4-Star SG

The Longhorns have just picked up a commitment from a four-star shooting guard from Houston.

Shaka Smart and the Longhorns have just picked up a commitment from four-star shooting guard Jacob Young (Houston/Yates), according to's Evan Daniels.

"I think Texas is a great fit for me and Coach Smart is my type of coach," Young told HD.

Young (6-foot, 170 pounds) is rated the No. 2 SG in Texas, No. 13 SG in the country and No. 82 player overall in his class.

He describes his game as being that of a "scoring point guard."

This is Smart's first commitment in UT's 2016 class.

Young is the younger brother of Pac 12 Player of the Year Joseph Young, who turned heads all season but especially in March while leading the Oregon Ducks deep into the NCAA Tournament. He was drafted by the Pacers with the 43rd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Jacob said there really isn't much difference between he and his brother, other than the fact that he (Jacob) is left-handed.

So who would beat who in a brotherly game of 1-on-1?

"The games are really good but he usually pulls out a couple of games," he said.

The younger Young, who is a gifted scorer like his brother, was hearing from Oregon, Baylor, Duquesne, Maryland, Cal Poly, Rice and Arkansas. In addition to Texas, he had offers from Baylor and Duquesne.

So now that he is on board with the Longhorns, which player will Young work hardest on to get to Austin?

"Jarrett Allen!," Young said, speaking of the five-star center from Austin (Texas) Saint Stephens.
