Peyton Aucoin Talks Top 2; Decision Near?

Three-star TE Peyton Aucoin (New Orleans/Brother Martin) gives HornsDigest an update on his recruitment, which is coming to an end.

The Longhorns missed out on three-star TE Jack Stoll after he announced his commitment to Nebraska a few weeks ago.

But Texas is squarely in the mix for another three-star at the position: Peyton Aucoin.

At one point a few weeks back Aucoin had a list of top schools that also included Vanderbilt, North Carolina State, Michigan, Ole Miss and Missouri.

However, a few days ago, the 6-foot-5, 251-pound bulldozer of a blocking tight end told HD that the Longhorns are in his Top 2 along with Florida.

"They are both pretty even right now," he said.

The good news for Texas is he plans on taking a trip to UT "around the 20th [of June]," and wants to decide sometime soon after that.

It will be Aucoin's second time visiting the 40 Acres. The first time came in late April with his parents and sister.

“It was a trip I was looking forward to,” he told HD’s Jason Higdon. “It didn’t necessarily give me a new perspective but instead showed me the true Texas regarding the school, town, program, and facilities. I liked what I saw regarding those things.”

Texas made him feel like he could be an important part of its future plans at the ‘Y’ position.

”My talk with Coach Strong was great because he emphasized the program, principles and his expectations for his players,” Aucoin said. “My parents loved Coach Strong and his style of coaching. Coach Watson talked about my ability to fit into the offense and play a true Y position and how important I am to them. The plan for the new offense was great because I could fit into it and thrive. Texas stands as one of my top schools right now. I just enjoyed it over there.”

If the Longhorns miss out on Aucoin then they could be in some trouble at the position. Taking two TEs in this class is a real possibility but that could become difficult if the New Orleans prospect goes elsewhere. That would mean that six of the seven TEs Texas has offered in this class will have committed elsewhere.

Another tight end to keep an eye on, who also happens to reside in New Orleans, is LSU commitment Jamal Pettigrew (New Orleans/St. Augustine). He is going to visit the Longhorns soon.
