40 Acres Forecast: Tim Cole

We continue our look at scholarship players on Texas' 2015 roster with LB Tim Cole.

Tim Cole

6-foot-1/235 pounds

High School:

Brenham, Texas

2014 Review

Cole didn’t see the field all that much due to the depth the Longhorns had at Linebacker with Jordan Hicks and Steve Edmond leading the way.

He saw action in nine games, mostly on special teams. His two tackles last season came against North Texas.

2015 Preview

Cole finally got an opportunity to prove his worth this spring when he was slotted at middle linebacker, and he performed admirably.

He left spring camp as a player many figured would play a big roll in Texas’ defense, be it as a starter or a reserve LB. But he hasn’t practiced this fall due to undisclosed reasons.

In his absence, freshman Malik Jefferson, redshirt freshman Edwin Freeman, and fellow freshmen Breckyn Hager, Anthony Wheeler, and Cameron Townsend have stepped up their game and looked poised to play a lot in 2015.

HD Projection

This all depends on Cole and when he can return to the program.

It’s troubling that he hasn’t been on the practice field with the team this far into camp.

If he can return in the same shape as he was in this spring then he should factor into the two-deep at middle linebacker. But it’s going to be tough the longer he stays out.

How he ended up on the 40 Acres

Like his high school teammate Malcom Brown, Tim Cole seemed destined for Texas A&M. But they ended weeks of speculation by committing to the Longhorns just before UT’s spring game.

Cole seemed to be the guy that kept Texas in the mix for Brown. He visited Austin three times in a month and helped get Brown to UT’s second Junior Day, which went a long way toward helping Mack Brown land them both.
