ALERT: Andrew Beck Injured at Practice

Longhorns TE Andrew Beck suffered an injury at practice recently. What's this mean for UT?

It appears as though things just got a little more complicated for the Longhorns at tight end as's Chip Brown is reporting that Andrew Beck suffered an injury at practice recently.

I'm told by a source that it is a knee injury and that Beck is waiting on MRI results to determine its severity.

Beck might not have recorded a reception last season but that should in no way diminish the importance of his roll on this team. While only a sophomore, Beck has proven to be the vocal leader of the tight ends, which is being coached by legendary Texas high school football coach Jeff Traylor.

He actually moved from linebacker to tight end during the 2014 preseason to help with depth at tight end. Once he got settled in coaches began to see just how natural he was at the position, which a few schools actually recruited him for out of Tampa (Fla.) Plant High School.

Coaches will tell you that he has incredible upside at the position and has great hands.

While we wait word on the severity of this injury the Longhorns will have to move on with four-star freshman DeAndre McNeal and redshirt sophomore Blake Whiteley at TE.

McNeal was recruited as a wide receiver but has transitioned to TE because of his unique blend of size (6-foot-1, 235 pounds) and speed (runs 4.4). He's been one of the more impressive players at camp so far.

Whiteley didn't play last season after spending one season at Arizona Western Community College where he caught eight passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

Texas was hoping to have four-star TE Devonaire Clarington (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) on campus by now but the NCAA ruled on Wednesday that he will have to retake his ACT before he'll have the chance to enroll at Texas.'s Amy Campbell and Publisher William Wilkerson discuss Beck's injury in the video above:
