ALERT: Blake Whiteley Injured at UT practice

Redshirt sophomore tight end Blake Whiteley is the second TE to suffer an injury for UT.

The hits just keep on coming for the Longhorns at their already thin tight end position.

Redshirt sophomore Blake Whiteley suffered a torn ACL during Thursday's practice and will miss the season, according to's Chip Brown.

This news come moments after HornsDigest first reported that sophomore tight end Andrew Beck suffered a knee injury in practice a few days ago.

All of this news comes less than a day after four-star Texas tight end signee Devonaire Clarington (Miami/Booker T. Washington) found out that the NCAA ruled that Clarington must retake his ACT before he will be eligible to enroll at UT.

Clarington, a U.S. Army All-American, appears to have the grades needed to gain admittance into Texas, but his ACT score, which he told HornsDigest was a 26, was scrutinized because it was too high compared to his GPA.

So Clarington will have to retake his ACT in order to meet the NCAA's approval and enroll at UT. The next possible ACT test won't take place until Sept. 12, according to the official ACT website. However, the final day for a Texas student to add/drop a class for the fall semester is Sept. 11.

Obviously it has not been the most pleasant couple of days for first-year TE coach Jeff Traylor. He'll now have to focus his attention on four-star freshman DeAndre McNeal, who has really thrived at the position so far in camp despite not playing TE in high school. He was originally recruited as a wide receiver but has the size (6-foot-1, 235 pounds) and speed (ran a 4.4 at UT) to be a matchup nightmare.

The Longhorns moved redshirt freshman Garrett Gray from wide receiver to tight end this fall to help with depth at the position, and also because Texas has an abundance of young talent at WR. He's obviously unproven at TE though but will have to accelerate his progression quickly as he's quickly moved into a crucial roll for UT.

Whiteley (6-foot-5, 248 pounds) is originally from Vancouver, B.C. He played one season at Arizona Western Community College where he caught eight passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
